From: The Secretariat, ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY AKUNGBA AKOKO STUDENTS’ UNION(AAUASU), STUDENTS’ UNION BUILDING
THURSDAY 18 JANUARY 2022
The Students’ Union is a body of intellectual and radical students, established with the cardinal purposes of championing the interests and welfare of the students, as well as protecting their rights within and outside the university community._
Recall that yesterday, 17th January, 2022., the leadership of AAUA Students’ Union, under Comrade Ogunsanmi Kolade, met with some key members of the university management team to agitate and appeal for the reduction of reparation fee and review of the university’s position on payment of tuition fee as students are preparing to return to campus.
In a meeting rescheduled by the management and held earlier today, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige conveyed the decisions of the management after considering the appeals of the students’ union. Following are the resolutions of the meeting:
1. The reparation fee earlier pegged to the tune of #20, 000 per student has now been reduced to #10,000. However, physically impaired students will be exempted from paying the reparation fee.
2. Against the earlier decision of the management that all students must pay their tuition fee upto current session before they can be eligible to sit for examination, after a very long appeal by the Students’ union, the university management agreed that only students who have paid upto last session would be allowed to sit for the examinations. For instance, a 400 level Student must have cleared their tuition upto 300 Level.
However, the university management strongly warned that such violent protest and deliberate destruction of the university facilities should never repeat itself again. As such, the Vice Chancellor directed the Students’ Union Executives to appeal to the students to work together positively for the benefit of the university.
The students’ union reaffirm that we will remain passionate to the service of the students.
